Meet Dior the Miniature Maltese and her owner Lori-Rose
About the Breed
The Maltese was developed in Italy and was first recognised as a breed in Malta, where they received their name. The breed was in fact owned by royalty all over the world (women carried them around in their sleeves and slept with them in their beds).
Why did you choose this particular breed?
The Maltese breed have such sweet temperaments being intelligent, playful, gentle and sweet natured. Living in an apartment the Maltese is an ideal breed. Being in a position that I can take my dog with me whilst I am working, I wanted a small breed and full in love with a Mini Maltese. Dior accompanies me everywhere and is often seen travelling in my handbag.
Is their personality/behaviour in line with what people may associate with the breed?
Dior is not snippy around children/people nor is she a dog that barks a great deal. She is very quiet but has an abundance of ways she expresses herself.
Any Tips for someone considering getting this breed?
I would not recommend this breed for anyone not wanting a companion dog. The Mini Maltese really loves company and does require a great deal of attention, even if that is just to be with you. Possibly not an ideal breed for young families as a little delicate. A full-size Maltese would be a better option for young families.
How interested/good at training or obedience?
Exceptionally good at training. Very quick to learn.
Any tricks, skills or community work?
Tricks: Dior loves to dance on her hind legs, especially If there is a treat incentive. Has been learning to find her treat under one of the three cups and loves it when she finds it.
Skills: Dior loves to dress up. She is a little lady loving fashion and having her photo taken
