Meet Coco the Australian Silky Terrier and her owner Blair

About the Breed

Coco is an Australian Silky Terrier (we think)! The breed was developed in Australia, although the ancestral types and breeds were from Great Britain. It is closely related to the Australian Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier.

Why did you choose this particular breed?

It was love at first sight, I had no idea what breed she was (her mum had an accidental pregnancy).

Tell us something unique about Coco

Coco has a very special story. To start, I bought my dog Coco 10 years ago from an Aquarium on South St in Toowoomba QLD. I had her for 2 weeks, someone broke into my house and stole her. After many posters, news ads, radio shoutouts and 2.5 weeks, I got my Coco back PHEW!

A few years later I had moved to Brisbane. I came home from work one day and Coco was gone without a trace. So out came the posters, facebook posts, news ads and more but no luck this time.
Just under two years later I got a call from the Noosa RSPCA Shelter to let me know that someone had brought her in after seeing her wandering around a park. Naturally, I raced as quickly as possible to the shelter and was reunited with my long lost pooch! I was very thankful for her microchip

What is Coco up to these days?

She is a busy dog! She is a Furbassador with the RSPCA, so we work with them on a few campaigns. She has an Instagram following of over 13 000 and I have just released Book 1 of Coco Tales The Imaginary Tales Of The Real Dog Who Disappeared.

What’s your one tip for pet owners:

Make sure your microchip details are up-to-date!

Any tricks, skills or community work?

Absolutely! She does the basics, sit, drop, stay but she also can wave, high 5 and roll over. Always a good party trick.

As for community work, coco LOVES a good pat and cuddle, so I take her to aged car facilities to visit the residents.
