The benefits of caravanning with pets

Play Video

With so many people considering their pet as an important family member, it’s no wonder so many of us want our pets on holidays with us. Caravanning with pets is the perfect way to do this!

In this segment, Gyton heads to the Crystal Brook Tourist Park to get some pet-friendly travel tips from a couple of New Age caravan enthusiasts to get their tips on what it is like caravanning with pets.

Here are some of the things you will learn in Gyton’s interview from Meet Michelle and Peter and their rescue greyhounds Maggie and Sparkle.

Q: How do you all go travelling a caravan, they’re not small?
Despite their size and running prowess, greyhounds are actually very quiet, sleep a lot, are happy to laze around.
We can easily move around the van as they tend to sleep on their bunk or our bed, and love human interaction and other friendly pets, so caravanning is a great holiday option.
There’s plenty of places in our Van to store their stuff, but their fluffy toys take pride of place on their bunk.

Q: What happens if you go out?
Our dogs come with us everywhere we go, if dogs aren’t allowed, we don’t go.
Fortunately, there are plenty of pet-friendly caravan parks we can stay at these days, as well as cafes and other public places we can go to with them so it doesn’t impact on our holiday.

Q: How do you keep them contained in the park?
In the park, we keep them on the lead if we’re outside or they’re happy to sit around with us inside the caravan.
Because greyhounds don’t really bark and due to their nature, they’re a perfect dog to take on a caravanning holiday.
